Incrementally producing songs is currently not possible, because the API always produces full songs rather than the notes of the next chord section, for example. However, in a future version this might very well be implemented, so that you can generate song parts on-the-fly to quickly react to game situation changes if SoundHelix is used as a realtime in-game music generator. Incrementally generating songs would also allow for endless playing or seemlessly switching to a different song during playback.
It is currently a bit unclear how SoundHelix could be extended in this way so that you can modify certain song creation parameters during playback, but generally, it would be feasible to implement such a feature.

Have my heart set out on creating a game with similar premise to this, will be watching closely if such an extension ever develops, or potentially developing my own solution.
